Remembering Home, Remembering War. From Kyïv, Kharkiv and Bucha to Basel.

 

The illustrated reportage tells the stories of five women who came from Ukraine to Switzerland, to Basel, in early 2022 because of the full-scale Russian invasion.

 

The stories are based on interviews conducted in the spring of 2024. The interviews revolved around the concepts of flight, arrival and home, and what it means to lose one's home to war and to remember it in a new place. The work thus operates at the intersection of 'truth', more specifically the aspect of reportage, and the artistic and imaginative.
